Dirk, inheriting the mantle from his father, embraces the challenge to innovate while preserving Niepoort’s esteemed traditions. While Dirk is the driving force behind the Nat’Cool movement, it was his father Rolf who, unknowingly, planted the seed in his son’s mind and taught him the importance of celebrating beautiful moments when he once told him: “the more wine we drink, the better it tastes.” With this seemingly simple statement, everything was said, and Dirk began moving away from heavy wines and going more in the direction of lightness, precision and detail.
Nat’Cool Wines
Nat’Cool represents an innovative collaboration among various producers, dedicated to crafting light, easy-to-enjoy wines. These wines harken back to the ‘cloudy’ wines of the past, bottled early with residual sugar and fine lees for re-fermentation, imparting a natural sparkle.
An ode to life and community, Nat’Cool celebrates the Dionysian spirit of enjoyment and sharing. Examples include the red “Drink Me” from Bairrada and the white “Drink Me” from Vinho Verde—wines that prioritize lower alcohol levels, aromatic richness, and vibrant colors.
